Program Overview

Ultimate Medical Academy’s Medical Administrative Assistant programs prepare students for entry-level careers focused on administrative roles in healthcare settings. Both the Diploma and Associate Degree tracks equip students with essential office and clinical administration skills, emphasizing areas like medical coding, record management, transcription, appointment scheduling, and handling insurance claims. Graduates are ready to perform tasks vital to medical offices, hospitals, clinics, and remote healthcare providers.

The diploma program consists of 940 clock hours and covers topics like medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, coding procedures, healthcare communication, and medical law. Students receive focused preparation for the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) certification, though certification itself is optional. The associate degree program expands on this with 1210 clock hours, adding general education courses including English, biology, math, and sociology to provide broader knowledge beneficial in administrative roles.

Program Flexibility and Delivery

UMA’s programs are offered fully online, making them suitable for students who prefer learning from home and managing their own study schedules. Courses are pre-recorded, allowing learners to access lessons and materials at any time. This model is ideal for working students, parents, or those with varying schedules who need flexible educational options.

Despite the virtual format, UMA maintains a high level of personalized support. Class sizes remain limited to 25 students, ensuring individualized attention and effective interaction with instructors. UMA also provides comprehensive academic assistance, career services, and technical support around the clock, which helps to minimize the challenges often associated with online learning.

Career Outcomes and Certification

Graduates from UMA’s Medical Administrative Assistant programs commonly pursue entry-level positions such as medical receptionists, billing specialists, patient care assistants, home health aides, and customer service representatives in medical settings. Typical work environments include doctors’ offices, hospitals, outpatient centers, long-term care facilities, and remote healthcare service providers.

Both programs provide preparation to take the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) exam, offered through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). While certification is not required to graduate, earning this credential may significantly enhance employment opportunities. UMA supports students thoroughly in exam preparation at no additional cost.

Admission Requirements

Prospective students must meet the following prerequisites:

  • Complete and approved application to UMA.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Successful completion of Wonderlic/ORA assessment.
  • Participation in a Financial Aid meeting and the creation of a Personal Funding Plan.

Additionally, UMA performs a background check, which students must pass within eight days of starting their program. Students failing this check may not be able to continue their enrollment. Those who appeal background decisions do so at UMA’s discretion.

Program Costs

The cost for the Diploma program totals $16,950, covering tuition, with the associate degree slightly higher at $24,690. UMA provides access to financial aid, grants, and scholarships for eligible students. Financial aid counseling is included in the admissions process to help students navigate these options.
